Hi everyone, my name is Florian and I’m a french automotive photographer. Petrolhead since my youngest age I started taking photographies 7 years ago. I’m now travelling around France and Europe to try to catch them all. As I’m growing up, i’m getting more and more attracted by classic cars and specially racing cars with all the history and the drama linked to the drivers. Enjoy!

The legendary Ford GT40 was created by the firm with one simple goal : win the 24h of le Mans. After two difficult seasons in 1964 and 1965, 1966 was finally the good one. With a more powerful GT40 called the MK II, the goal was finally achieved and the tandem Bruce McLaren/Chris Amon won Le Mans.

Three other overall wins at the 24H will follow, in 1967 with an over powerful version of the GT40 called the MK IV (the MK III was a street version in case you are wondering), and in 1968 and 1969 it was the first version, the MKI, that won despite its old age. The word legend is well deserved. You can hear the evil sound of the GT40 V8 here:

Following the 1970 Ferrari 512S, Ferrari introduced a more powerful version in 1971 (the V12 produced now 620hp) called the 512 M. Despite a very strong pace in several races (one of the 512M even leaded the 24h of Le Mans during the night) and a few podiums, the 512M did not win a single race because of the engine reliability…

It was clear that the support of Ferrari was not good enough, remember Ferrari was also in F1 and the F1 will remain its ultimate goal. The 512M will stay forever as a wasted potential but that V12 noise will make you vibe forever I guess. Here is the noise:

The Ferrari 512S was introduced in 1970 to compete against the Porsche 917 that we presented to you a few weeks ago. After a promising start at the first race in Sebring where the 512 of Giunti/Vaccarella/Andretti won, the rest of the season was more complicated (a few podiums though). The V12 was not very reliable and the drivers even said that the car was a truck compared to the very agile 917. Ferrari created then a more efficient version for 1971 called the 512M, that you will discover next week.

The Aston Martin DB4 GT was born in the early sixties, a little bit more than 300hp was under its hood. Only 75 pieces have been made and it surely embodies the british class.

The Porsche 959 was born during the mid eighties to compete in the Group B rallye. Unfortunately, the group B ended before Porsche even produced their first piece. Anyway Porsche built about 250 pieces of what it is now known as their first supercar.

The Porsche 917 was introduced in 1969 to replace the 908/1, in the only purpose to win 24H of Le Mans. It didn’t take long, the 917 won Le Mans in 1970 through an incredible season : 6 wins for 7 races. In 1971 the 917 was still untouchable with another victory at Le Mans and 7 victories for 9 races. Finally the car was banned for the 1972 but will stay forever as the first Porsche victory Le Mans, we call that a legend.

The Lamborghini Miura SV, designed by Bertone in the mid sixties, was born from the willingness of Ferrucio Lamborghini to compete against his rival Enzo Ferrari. The Miura was one of the first road car with a mid-rear engine and his design was so creative. With its 3.9 V12, she was considered as one the very first supercars ever, but often described by many drivers as one of the most awful car to drive, with so much reliability problems but what a pleasure to listen and to look at.

The Ferrari 275 GTB was one of the best GT of the sixties. The “Colombo” V12 produced 280ch, quite enough for the everyday life but if you still need more speed a “Competizione” version was developed and was very successful in competition. Viva Italia.

The Porsche 2.1 RSR Turbo was introduced by Porsche in 1974 with a flat 6 of 460ch. Two pieces began the 1974 24h of Le Mans and the one driven by Herbert Muller et Gijs Van Lennep finished second of the race behind the Matra, truly a great machine!
